This year in English, I will work relentlessly to teach and guide your child to become a better reader, writer, speaker, and listener; however, I need every effort from you to help us in this endeavor. Below are some constants in our class that you should be knowledgeable about in order to encourage and motivate your child:
- Students will be assigned homework on occasion. Homework will have one due date and will not be accepted late for credit. The purpose of the homework is for the students to be able to demonstrate further mastery/understanding for the next day of class.
- Students will be expected to be accountable for asking for missed work, tutoring, or extra help. I will be available for tutoring by appointment, however students who stay will be responsible for providing their own transportation home between 4:00 and 4:30 PM.
- Students will receive a new vocabulary unit every Monday and will have a quiz on that unit every Friday. After every 3rd unit, students will have a vocabulary unit test. These quizzes and test account for a significant grade in the course. This routine is a great way for students to improve their grade.
- Students will have a Unit Test at the end of every unit. These tests will be worth a combined average of 60% of their marking period grade. They will have a least one week of advance notice before a Unit Test.
